Who says skinny is the only sexy?

Since I was little, I always thought I wasn’t pretty enough, good enough and fit enough for everything. Because I am too big for my age. Because I am fat.

Everyone around me made me believe that being fat is a crime. That the only people entitled to live a good life in our society today are the skinny ones. For the skinny ones are always the beautiful ones.

And to make it worse, the media asserts the notion that “Thin is In”, and one can only be healthy if one is skinny. As proof, there has been a proliferation of models so skinny it’s as if they have been deprived of all the good food in the universe. These models are found everywhere- in the magazine, the TV, and they are the ones whose faces and bodies get to be in the billboard. It was when I noticed a certain fast weight loss ad [a certain company's liposuction ad] that I was finally convinced that I am ugly and unfit in this world.

With that, I started to crash diet, taking only crackers and water for my food. Yes, I lost weight fast, but my body had to pay for the consequences of my diet. I got ill and stopped from dieting.

Since then, every weight loss attempt I had were utter failures. As if I were never meant to be sexy and beautiful, I thought. I was in despair for I could never wear the clothes that are in style for the season, for I fear that I will look baggy or pregnant if I were the one wearing them. As hurtful as it is, I confined myself to just wear plain T shirts and jeans. And accepted the fact that I will never be as beautiful as those girls in the television.

And then, I found this blog:theplumpinay.blogspot.com

This blog made me realize that to be beautiful, one does not have to be super model-skinny. To be sexy, one does not have to deprive oneself of all the mouth-watering food that the Lord has given us. It is in the way you carry yourself, it is in the way you act, it is in the way you smile, it is how you think and speak.

To be beautiful is to accept and love yourself for who you are.

I was really thankful for setting my eyes on this blog. I was able to accept myself for who I am, and I realized I wasn’t the only one being scrutinized and hurt by society’s limiting eyes. As I read on, I learned that not only the women my size are getting judged by their looks, the skinny ones get to be criticized too.I learned that we do not need other’s opinions to judge the way we look, for we are all created beautiful in our own ways. We do not have to deprive and limit ourselves to every luxury in life just because of our size. Being thin is not always healthy. And being fat is never ugly, and does not always mean that the person is depressed and ugly. Sometimes, being fat means that one is very festive and happy of their lives.

And Yeah, Who says skinny is the only Sexy? :P

the problem is not the weight per se, but how you carry yourself. It wouldn’t matter if you are the sexiest person in the world, if you still see yourself as unworthy.

Love your curves, and it will love you back.Kudos, haydenise!
