A short story explaining how a young author feels about sunlight. It was used in school as a journal essay. Enjoy:)
We all know that the Sun is a necessity for life. Without it, this planet would never have gotten warm enough for humans to live on it. The Earth would have been a frozen wasteland forever. Not only would it be too cold without the Sun, but it would also be too dark. How would humans be able to create fire without anything to burn? Plants need sunlight to live and grow. You might think that they would still have the fossil fuels to burn, but that’s not true either. Fossil fuels are made from plants, which never would have lived on Earth. Even if there were fossil fuels, there is no way humans would be able to get at them with no light.
So now we come to the question “how does sunlight make me feel?” Well, it makes me feel happy to be alive, it makes me feel warm in cold weather, but most of all it makes me feel amazed. Amazed that the Sun is powerful enough to bring us heat, even though the Earth is millions and millions of miles away. It astonishes me to know that the sunlight has to travel for 8 minutes before it reaches the Earth’s surface.
Even though the Earth is the reason for us being here, it still needs respect. When people abuse the sunlight by staying in it for too long, the sun’s harmful rays can damage your health. People have overcome this by creating sun screen and sun block lotion to prevent damage to your skin. Sometimes the Sun gets a little too hot for our liking and you wish it would just go away, but you can’t be serious, because if it went away, you wouldn’t be there long enough to notice that your wish came true.
So now you know how I feel about sunshine and maybe you even learned some new things about the Sun. We can’t live without it, so never doubt it.
