Essek Wrenrunner, the grand tale teller of Maestras. The following one of many stories told around the campfire by the famous, or infamous mixed blood minstrel. Born to an elven father, this half breed troublemaker wanders the world telling the tales of old and of himself.

“The scraping of the beasts claws seemed to echo out across the ridge tricking the senses into believing we were surrounded. Luckily I’ve seen my fair share of drakes and their tactics before.” Essek said as he puffed out his chest a bit looking at the group of children huddled around the bonfire, all listening intently to the tale of his last adventure.

“We knew the beast was close on our tails and it wouldn’t be long before it had caught up with us so we turned to fight. With our weapons at the ready and spells at our fingertips we waited for the drake to come up over the cliff. But the beast got the best of us, coming up from the other side of the ridge it let out a terrifying shriek and jumped down at us,” He continued, acting out the story as it went, his hands clawing at the imaginary cliff face and shrieking as the beast did. A few kids jumped and clutched onto their friend next to them as he peered across the fire, his voice elevated into the shrill shriek.

“The savage drake came down from the ridge with blazing speed and was only a scarlet blur in the dark night sky. Its wicked talons and razor fangs spilt the blood of my compatriots, tearing some of the strongest men I’ve met to ribbons in a bloody dance. While my group was frozen in a paralyzing fear that would have left us for dead I threw caution to the wind and willed my friends to fight. ‘To arms brothers and sisters, we must deliver the Tome of Arach!’ I yelled. My words sank deep into my allies’ hearts and spurred them forward,” he continued, now standing and throwing up his arms as if he had challenged the drake by himself.

“The beast tore through the hired guard we had, carving a bloody path towards me. With my bow firm in my hand, I called upon my will and shot true, sinking a handcrafted arrow deep into the drake’s chest. The beast cried in pain and spit blue flames into the sky, illuminating the bloodbath it had already caused. Lashing out with its claws as it charged my good man Artemis I thought he was done for, but apparently my words had filed him with the need to survive. Artemis lowered himself against the beast’s attack and raised his shield. The beast toppled over him and rolled towards me. It lashed on the ground, whipping its tail around like a massive club. I was a bit to close for my own good and got smashed by it and it slammed me up against the cliff face. My bow knocked away and left slumped on the ground I managed to look up to see the beast had righted itself and had Artemis pinned up against the opposite wall, slashing and snapping at him furiously.” he kept going, now acting as though he were all the characters, swiping with his hands like the drakes claws, raising his shield arms to mock the blocks of Artemis and throwing himself back onto the ground as he fell in the story.
