Outer space battles were getting costly.

Captain Cremelyn looked at the communique and the pain screamed over her face but she remained quiet for a long moment.  She had assembled the Avrivion Warriors Cadet Graduates and her crew to the assemble deck of the Mongoose.   Once more she looked into the eye of the Illuminate Visionary to confirmed the communique.  She looked up at the assembled group before her.

She took in a deep sigh and then spoke, “I have called you into this assembly, after receiving news that affects all of us. We are all Avrivion and this is a very heavy message.  I have confirmed it to be true.  As many of you know, I was concerned with why General Bratykol pulled the Third and  the Seventh Bengra Fleets from here, knowing the Star Beauty was someplace in the sector and preparing to join up wit the Voragian Mighty Fifteenth.  Well, I received my answer in this communique.  General Bratykol has diverted the forces he had her to the Avrivion Empire.  They attacked this morning and with the exception of the Avrivion Warriors traveling on ships or on duty on other system planet in the far sectors, all our people have been massacred, this includes the great academy, where my husband taught.  I am now the highest ranked Avrivion Warrior left alive, therefore our peoples fate falls on me. “

Hertreng, an Avrivion Warrior, asked the question that most were thinking, “How many have survived?”

Captain Cremelyn, “As far as I can tell, maybe half a million men and about a million children are on outlying planets or out of area ships.  I am directing them to Animor.  It is our job, as women and Warriors, to make sure they get there safe.  We also have to get under the Star Beauty’s shield and guide her through the Viji Novae Pass.  It will be the only place that we have a chance of getting through with the rest of our people and the Star Beauty and her two thousand escorts.  Warriors with husbands on board you are now granted on board leave to comfort you husbands.  You know how delicate they are, try to ease their minds.  Cadets, you are now activated as Warriors, report to your commanders for your assignments.  Charts plot a course that brings us to the closest rendezvous with the majority of our people,  we’ll bring them into the shield, if we can.  As for the rest they will have to make it to animor on their own.  Dismissed”

Meanwhile, in the chambers of the Brethren of the Levenian Pirates,  Captain Jochern Viggio, of the Levenian Star Raider, Queen Zir, and leader of the Forend Levenian Privateers, stood before the few surviving council members around the table.  In the past, he had faced the seasoned and most fearsome pirates in the universe, yet now, all he faced were a few beaten men with the look of fear in their eyes.  Each member of the council had faced the Bengra and had been beaten back and now were hunted down.  Their worlds  destroyed, their crews captured, tortured, and then killed in the most gruesome way, and they themselves hunted and then eliminated one by one.  Now they had to fall back to Animor but the only fleets left were those that traveled with Captain Jira Dox, and those that sailed with Captain Jochern Viggio.

Captain Viggio knew why he had been summoned, he knew he had no other choice, he was the best of the Privateers and he was known for being “unconventional”, even among Levenian Pirates.  He had to run an escort mission and not just any, he had to escort the last of the survivors of the Levenian Pirates Empire to Animor, where they would join up with the Voragian Mighty Fifteenth Fleet.   They had all agreed to become a new empire which included the Avrivions, The Voragia, the Levenian, The Garians, the Kadiens, the Altimas, and the various races of the Eight Border Empires. They all agree to be united as one people, now all would be known as the Voragia.  Their only hope was a slim one, but it was better than the alternative of guaranteed annihilation by the Bengra.  Their ships were few compared to the Bengra Empire’s two billion, and they would be heading to the Animor System with one way in and, maybe no way out, if the Voragia couldn’t figure how to cross the Saerlean Liquid Space Ocean.   They would have to stay close to the Meteor Rings of the Breen Triple White Dwarfs, and if they made it past there, Kaldra’s Solar Rip Tidals with their class four monster funnels, unless they traveled charted open space.  Then all they risked was the chance of getting caught in the open by the better armed and faster Bengra Long Ranged Longships, that would not accept surrender at any price.

The Captain looked into the faces of the remaining Brethren and gave his answer, “Aye to Animor.”

In the meantime, The Altima were teleconversing with the living energy in biometal beings known as the Kadiens.

“Then it is agreed?” asked the Altima Shipmaster.

Through the Illustra Focuser, the pleasing image of the Kadien Queen spoke, “Yes.  Your will complete your process into making the last of my people fit to fly.  We, the Kadien Warrior Ships, will join our families in Battle, but before we do, we will carry you to Animor, and. there, you will board our Kadien Incubator Ships, where you may set up another ship building planet, in the Ceril System, provided the Voragians can make it through the Saerlean Liquid Space Ocean.   If you so choose, you may also resume building non-lifeformed war and commercial ships, although without Kadien bodies to mold into the magnificent works of art that we are, I do not think you will ever obtain such perfection and mastery of your trade again.

The Altima shipmaster, smiled and then nodded, “Yes your  Highness.”

The Kadien Queen continued, “After all, you have to have start with perfection to create perfection.  These Bengra are a blight but their energy is good eating.  Their consumption will sustain our beings for many millennia.  Then we can sleep once again in peace and allow your artists to create even greater art in our offspring.

Once again the Altima Shipmaster smiled and said, “Yes, Your Majesty.”

The queen went on, “These Bengrans, they have destroyed our system and reduced our very life-forms throughout our beloved Kadien and Altima System.  If our children and you, their caretakers, can make it to the home of the Old Ones in the Ceril System, our peoples can start anew.  But, for my warriors, we and the Voragia will face glorious battle and energy feed on Bengra, and their ending will be so much the better, for the crimes against the Kadien and Altima call for nothing less.  As for your people, the Altima, we have been with you since the early times when you fist took our molten masses and shaped them into the most perfect, the most powerful, and the most beautiful flying biomachines ever to grace the universes and to fight for glory.  We thank you you for that and we will relocate you to a safer place, after all we can not allow the only ones who know are souls to perish.   The Voragia, Garians, and Levenian Pirates may become one in marriage with us, but you will always be the ones who know us best.   Therefore, I decree this day, finish us in the two Altimaks we have left, for that is the time you have left before those Universe Eaters arrive, and we will leave together for Animor.”

The Shipmaster bowed and spoke softly, “This shall be done,  we will grace the Kadiens with our finest artistry and in the quickest amount of time.  In two Altimaks we shall be ready for departure to Animor.”

While on the Deck of the Virgin Valkyrie, Captain Vortigen slowly rising from his long rest, pondered the question, “Who could have betrayed them to the Bengra longships at the rendezvous?”   He looked into the Illustra Focuser and spoke, “Are we alone?”

In a moment the image of the Virgin Valkyrie entered Vortigen’s mind and spoke, “Yes, my love, but I have detected an alien presence within my hull.  It seems to be transmitting but I can not tell exactly where it is as it has multiple-echo clones.”

The Captain said, “We must find it.  Is that the source of deception?”

The Virgin Valkyrie replied, “No, it is only a secondary beacon.  The source is a shadow in my mind, it is using something beyond my understanding.  I need a shipmaster to explain.”

Vortigen now greatly concerned asked, “Are you infected?”

She spoke back, “Yes, but it is Minor, at the moment, but my Com is compromised.  We must make the retreat at the Dex Line soon or I fear it will spread.  There is a more immediate and important issue, I am losing Black matter energy.   I fear that I will only have enough for one pass into the retreat, if we miss, i will cease.”

He gently spoke, “Then, my love, we go to the retreat in Animor.  I must ask the Pari to grant me a family visit.”

“Then to Animor, my love.”
