Chapter three : Carnage.

The Roman Army had lost their champions and whilst they held on for centuries to come, they were visibly weakened and suffered loss after loss. They were baffled by the Unicorns disappearance, but were soon to hear of a new and mighty warlord by the name of Attila the Hun.

The death of Attila’s father had been felt by the Unicorns and as his two sons Bleda and Attila took control of the Hunnic throne they felt the power and the coming destructive wars.  The Unicorns again walked through the ranks of the Hunnic empire, killing any who tried to stop them, splitting up as they each found the Brother to whom they would psychically link.

Attila looked the mighty beast in the eyes, saw the power, rage and utter fearlessness of the animal, he felt the message being passed to him and saw through his mind’s eye the battles that the Unicorns had won for the Roman’s.  He was instantly won over, mounted the Unicorn and rode to where his Brothers soldiers were trying valiantly, though ultimately fruitlessly, to slow the second Unicorns progress.

Attila shouted to his Brothers men to cease their pointless fighting and to his Brother to listen to the Unicorns tails.  Breda ordered his men to let the Unicorn in and listened with growing excitement to the offer he was given.  Upon hearing the truth he swiftly mounted his steed and with his Brother the order was given to head to Aetius were work was waiting.

As soon as the Roman empire caught sight of the Huns benefactors they immediately doubled the tribute to the Huns, from 350 to 700 pounds of gold.  The Romans knew to fear the new leaders of the Hunnic clans and were wise to ease the war.

Bleda chose to leave the battles of Armenia and broke the agreement with the Unicorns, the Huns were fiercely defeated – confirming the Unicorns promise.

During the next 8 years the Unicorns stood tall with the Huns and all that they came to were defeated, the Unicorns revelled in blood lust and drank the blood of each race of man that was destroyed.  Such fear of the Huns and their leaders existed that Constantinople (more recently known as Istanbul) began preparations for the battles to come.

In 442, barely 7 years from the last doubling, the Roman empire increased its tribute to 1,400 pounds of gold.  These payments were creating a strain on the Eastern Empire and two years later the payments ceased.  Incensed Bleda let an army, unknown by Attila, without his immortal assistance and was slain, his head being sent back to Attila with the message to leave the lands taken from the Romans.
