Something that I felt one evening…
Eyes closed, thoughts roaming, then you find yourself in a dark cave. No light, only the soft lights from the cave walls can you use to see, to guide you, can only use your hand to run along the right side of the wall to find your way. Go slow, step by step, as you are not sure where your next step will lead you. Wondering, what lies ahead, the silence, the damp musty smell it gives, that seems to find its way deep into your lungs. The chill you fill, your arms feel ice cold, your fingers ache, body shivers inside, like as if you are standing waist deep in a frigid cold lake. Feel like your feet are dead weight at times, but you continue to move them, one at a time, at a very slow even pace.
You feel the rocks, some rough, some pointed, some smooth, guiding your way, but to where? Where will this dark damp cave take you? When will it end? Will you see light anytime soon? Your mind is moving with anticipation of what lies beyond your next step, or maybe the fear of what will show itself in time. Yet you continue onward, taking that step, one at a time, not stopping, for you know not if you dare try to turn around and find your way back out again, You must continue to move forward.
Peaceful, as the sounds are null, yet the darkness gives you the shivers, dare you go forward? Shall you stop and call out for help? But you cannot speak, the sounds are not there, the mouth does not move, you have no choice but to keep going. The darkness continues, you feel your feet stumble over little hills that seem to sometimes pop up on front of your feet, you edge your way over them, not stopping, not daring to look back. Now your wondering, how did I get here? Why am I here? thoughts start to take over your mind, but you must concentrate, continue to feel the wall, find your way.
Then you come to an area, you feel around, you can tell there are two ways to go, to the left, to the right, what should you do? You look, you can tell that the left is a much darker tunnel, you can not even see two feet in front of you, so dark, so scary feeling, yet it seems to catch your eye, seems to attract you to it. Yet, to the right, the tunnel is dark, but you see a very soft, light flow slightly through it, you can see a dim light far, far, in the distance, it seems to give you a warm feeling, a welcoming feeling, as it to tell you, it is safe to come this way. Yet, you look to the left again, you just seem as if it is calling you, exciting you some way, so you take a step to the left, you stop. Your stomach gets a knot in it, your hair rises on your arms, the back of your neck seems to get a tingle in it. Why does this direction seem to thrill you, yet scare you at the same time. Should you go to the right, the side that gives you a warm, safe, feeling? Yet to the left, seems to call you, excite you with the unknowing of what is down at the end of the tunnel, Do you dare to continue on in this unforeseen direction?
