Children believe the old lady of the town is a wicked witch.
All the kids in town were afraid of old Miss Madeline. She lived in a very spooky house with cracks all in it. She never came outside except to get her mail and groceries. She has lots of wrinkles and warts. That was all the proof they needed. She had to be a witch. The kids never went near her house. All kids know what witches do, they eat little children.
Timmy came inside after school one day. Timmy’s parents said they were going out to dinner, and that he would have to stay with a baby sitter. “I’m already seven and a half dad!” Cried Timmy. “Don’t argue with me”, said his father. We will be taking you to Miss Madeline’s house. “Dad! She’ll eat me alive!” “That’s enough, Timmy” shouted his dad. They were on their way to the witches house, and Timmy was making a list of things he could do to keep himself busy.
Before he knew it, the car stopped, and they were at Miss Madeline’s house. They walked up onto the creaking doorstep. The door squeakily opened slowly, and there she was. Old Miss Madeline. She said, in her strange voice, “come in Timothy”. Timmy turned to his dad, and his mother gave him the look to go inside and to behave.
Old Miss Madeline had a few chores for Timmy to do around the house. She watched everything Timmy did. “Where is your black cat?” asked Timmy. “Why he’s right here my dear” the old lady screeched. Timmy finished up the chores, which made him very hungry. “I’m hungry, when is dinner going to be ready?” “Soon enough, my deary, soon enough”. Timmy just kind of stared at her as she swayed strangely into the kitchen.
Timmy watched her closely bound and determined to catch her in a witch act. She reached for a crooked like stick. Timmy was unsure what her plans were, but was still starving. He reminded her, “I’m very hungry”! She told Timmy his dinner was coming right up, and she pointed the stick and all of Miss Madeline had a green glow to her. Timmy stared in awe as she became brighter and brighter. The end of her crooked stick threw out a bolt of lightning right towards Timmy.
He picked up one of the dishes he had washed, and the spark bounced back and hit Miss Madeline. She turned into a pie. Looked pretty tasty, but Timmy was no longer hungry. Timmy felt he had saved all the kids in town. There was suddenly a knock on the door. Timmy ran to the door, and it was his parents. “How was your afternoon Timmy?” asked his father. “Boring”, Timmy replied. “I knew they would not believe me if I told them the truth”, Timmy said to himself.
He told all the kids what had happened, and they all praised him with excitement. No one in town would have to worry about Miss Madeline anymore.
