Humorous short story about a disastrous blind date.
Are you going on a blind date? Be careful what you wish for. It might turn into an utter disaster. Here is one scenario of a date that has gone very bad.
Your girlfriend has set you up for a blind date. “He’s really hot. You’ll have a great time. He’s a terrific fellow.” These are the words of your girlfriend. Exactly how does the actual date go?
The doorbell rings. Your blind date has arrived. He doesn’t look like a hunk. He looks more like a string bean. “Hi, my name is Albert. I’m your date. We’re going to have such a groovy time.” Oh no, he said the word groovy. Yikes, what have I gotten into?
You ponder how to respond. You give him a cool handshake. You’re off on your “romantic” adventure. Albert takes you to a vegetarian restaurant. “I don’t eat meat,” says Albert. “Also, I don’t eat peanuts. I’m allergic to them. In fact , here is a list of things that I am allergic to.” Albert gives you a list that extends to the floor. “I’m going to have the turnip salad with a piece of seven grain bread. Doesn’t that sound groovy?” Oh no, he’s said that word again. Get me out of here.
Albert talks nonstop. He talks about his complexion. He talks about his allergies. He talks about his interest in butterflies. He talks about the anatomy of the fruit fly. He talks, and talks. and talks. You try in vein to shut him up. Nothing works! He then blows his nose right in front of you. “Too much dust,” says Albert. “Let’s go dancing.” No way are you going dancing with Albert. You would rather be stuck in a cave before dancing with Albert. “I have a better suggestion,” you remark. “Why don’t you take me home. I really want to go home.”
Albert starts to giggle. “That sounds like a groovy idea. We can play a game of War. I have a deck of cards in my pocket.” Oh my God, can things get any worse? “No Albert, I just want to go home. I have a lot of work to do tomorrow. Really, I want to go right this very second.”
