This is part two of my zombie story.
The sound of gunshots traveled through the neighborhood. It was almost never-ending, blast after blast. If you didn’t know that the world was going to shit and that the dead were somehow running around, you would’ve thought World War 3 was happening just outside your door. Harper was standing right in the middle of all the chaos. Blood painted the streets but the rain was always there to wash it away and the rain was falling, just like the bodies that kept sprinting towards Harper. Head shot after head shot left a pile of bodies, a pile of the undead who were surely dead now. This tall, lanky fellow with innocent eyes was standing to Harper’s left holding a video camera. I guess filming the destruction is better than being part of it. His name was Mark.
Harper looked at him with enraged eyes and said “This isn’t a movie. I was almost zombie meat a few seconds ago. You seem to think this isn’t life or death. Well, I have news for you. If it wasn’t for me, you would be one of them.”
Mark set down his camera and took a few steps towards Harper then he spoke. “I know what this is. It’s Hell on Earth but if I don’t show the World then who will. I’m trying to make a difference. I’m trying to show people that they can survive.”
Harper laughed menacingly and replied with “You think surviving means holding a camera?” She grabbed his camera, pointing it at him and surveying him. “Tell me, Mark. Am I surviving? How does it feel to be the one in front of the camera? Your audience is waiting. Answer my question.”
Mark glanced down at the ground. When he looked back up you could tell he had been defeated. Words started to form on his lips. “This is all I have.”
Where had Harper found this camera man? Well, she had saved his life. He was seconds from death and her bullets saved his life. Harper knew that she had to be the one to protect him because she couldn’t protect Murphy.
