A short story, true or not?
“Wow, beautiful gypsum crystals, more than three feet across, a good eight feet long, and hanging from everywhere. They’re so pure they almost look like uncut diamonds. I can’t believe the beauty we just found. There’s no way anyone else has ever been here,” Craig murmurs in excitement to his best friend Jeremy. “I knew this vacation was going to be a once in a lifetime experience. I’m so glad we both got the whole summer off so we could explore these caves. I know we’re going to find something never before seen.”
“Yeah, I’ve got the same feeling, it’s almost surreal. What do you think we’re going to discover?”
“I’m not sure but it’s gonna be a big discovery, I can feel it in my bones” Craig reply’s with a laugh. “Let’s head further in. This could be the big day.”
“Wait, stop, did you hear that?” Jeremy asks nervously after moving another five hundred feet into the cave. He looks around quickly, chills move up and down his spine. It’s impossible to see anything outside of the headlamp area, the blackness so complete.
“I heard it. It was strange, a kind of singing tone, almost a happy sound but definitely something that doesn’t belong here. Let’s keep moving. I want to find whatever it was that made that noise. It’s as if it’s calling to me.”
“There it is again, only louder. We seem to be going in the right direction” Jeremy whispers after another bout of chills moves over his skin. “It sounded like a woman’s voice. You think someone is here now” he says in disappointment.
“No necessarily. It could be some natural occurring thing. It doesn’t have to be an actual person making the noise. You know how caves are. They’re strange, wonderful, and full of the unknown. You never know what you’re going to find” Craig says with suppressed excitement.
“That’s true. Let’s go left up ahead. It looks like the cavern may open up into another room.”
