When do two people run out of things to say to each other?

Two people are facing each other across the table. They had nothing to say to each other.  Olivia vowed to forget David and everything that reminds her of him.  She was so much hurt when she caught David kissing another girl at their high school prom.  He was her boyfriend and her date that night, and he did not even had the grace of controlling himself, of not flirting with other girls.  After that, Olivia avoided and refused to talk with David.  After high school, she went to study at a far away place, far away from their hometown, far away from David.

Now after 10 years, Olivia was back at their hometown.  She has to come home for her father is sick.  It’s a good thing that her father is now out of danger.  He was just recuperating.  They told her that he owes his good health because of the efforts and dedication of his young doctor.  Olivia told them that she would like to thank his father’s doctor to whom he owes his life.  She told them that she will cook dinner and could they please invite this good doctor so she can thank him before she goes back to the city.

Now, sitting at the dinner table, she could not believe that the very person she escaped from 10 years ago, is the very person she has invited to have a special dinner with at their home.  She felt that her family betrayed her, that they had set her up.  Every body left them all alone at the dinner table while his father was sleeping peacefully at his room.

And so she was left with the person she refused to have anything with.

She would like to rise and leave him alone at the table, but common sense told her that they were not high school kids anymore.  She is now a woman armed and ready to face anything even the ghost that haunted her dreams all these years.

David spoke first. “I see that you still do not want to talk to me.  But it’s okay.  You don’t need to talk to me.  All that I ask is that you listen to me.  I know that what happened 10 years ago probably doesn’t matter anymore with you, but for me, this is still an important issue that needs to be clear up between us once and for all.  I want you to know that you misunderstood what you had seen.  I was not the one kissing Jenny that night, but it’s Jenny who had carelessly kissed me.  She kissed me because she was making Troy jealous.  They are now happily married, just in case you want to know.  Jenny apologized to me that same night.  She tried to talk with you, but you also avoided her like the plague.”

Olivia tried to absorb everything David said.  It seems she was wrong all these years.  But pride made her said, “Like what you said, it was already 10 years ago.  Why are you still saying these things to me?”

David cursed under his breath and remarked, ”Gosh, Olivia, I really don’t know why I still try to make things right with you.  It is because I love you, I really do.  You don’t know how much I was hurt when you left me and did not even given me a chance to explain.  I know I should hate you, but this heart of mine only beats for you.  But I can see that you don’t feel anything for me anymore.  I’m sorry I took your time and disturb you.  I promise I will not bother you anymore.”

David rose from his chair to go when Olivia suddenly said, “David, wait.  I’m sorry.  I was such a bitch.  Can you still forgive me?”

David did not answer her.  Instead, he pulled Olivia up and took her in his strong arms.  Now, they really had nothing to say to each other, not when their lips are sealed in a sweet breath-taking kiss that said it all.

Goes you show that not everything is as it seems. You should give someone a chance to explain. You never know what they might say.
