Relocating can be a daunting experience. It can mean changing your whole life.

 Making lists can help.

Perhaps you may have to learn a new language and culture.

In our case we moved from a big city in Southern Ontario where we had lived all our lives to a small rural village.

We had criteria for choosing our home in the near north. The house we settled on met all of them.

 It’s a older house made of fieldstone close to the lake within walking distance of stores,

 ands lots of flower gardens which is one of my passions

There was a bit of culture shock though at 7pm on any given day main street is as quiet as 3am in a city,

particularly now that the main highway has by-passed our town.

 Sometimes at night it’s so quiet I can’t sleep.

I didn’t have to learn a new language,  but I needed to understand local sayings and customs.

For instance, I overheard someone saying there was flooding down south,

I thought they meant Florida, they mean southern Ontario.

There is no daily newspaper so obituaries are taped to the post office door,

 like old fashioned wanted posters.

Not only does everyone know everyone and all their business they all seem to be related,

so be careful of criticizing that lazy handy man, that never seems to finish anything.

As he is most likely the butchers nephew. All in all we are pleased with how we have settled in.

 Okay well I think I will go and pickup the mail at our post office and find out if anyone I know has died before its old news.

 Nothing like killing two birds with one stone! ha ha ha…
