A continuation of Dendrianna’s diary from her second day as she traveled outside of Ostlyn.

Thoughts within Dendrianna – 3Second Day of a New Beginning Cont.

The vessel we boarded, the Nusmas, is primarily a cargo ship with room for several passengers. Being a cargo ship there were many scents lofting up from the bottom hold area that were new to me.

I took some time steadying myself to the rocking motions of the vessel while it was still docked, but found myself holding onto the railing while we left the port and headed out to sea. I must admit a bit of fear coursed through me as I watched the land grow more distant. I felt like a child asking Etharan so many questions and her patience with me does not proceed without my gratitude. Still and even with her every consoling answer, fear kept its place within me for near half the trip.

We watched Ostlyn fade from view in the moonlit darkness and Etharan began pointing out various notable areas. At the front of the ship I looked over the rail and watched as the wooden craft sliced through the water. Etharan said she will take me out on a windier day so I can feel the spray of the sea! I marveled at the several dolphins gliding in front and along side the Nusmus and wondered why they would. Curious creatures? I do not know their reason, but fascinating!

Before I knew it we were arriving in another port town along the Eastern Shore called Lorwick. The port and dock was much smaller than Ostlyn as is the village itself. In fact, the village is a nice pace from the docks where I had trouble walking through the soft sand – never have I felt earth so soft and Etharan quickly removed her shoes which I quickly followed. Even in the darkness, the contrast between my grey skin and the white of the sand was evident as I wiggled my toes and buried my feet…and so cool to the touch the further beneath the sand I went – a refreshing cool unlike the damp cool of the underground.

Lorwick is a human built settlement with fieldstone walls surrounding the rough wooden built structures with a single stone building, their temple. The resident villagers I met were quite pleasant and nothing like how my race perceives them and I found this true when we traveled to Wildeiron and Westerfair. Each town a bit larger than the last and Westerfair being quite busy for the time of night. Here I saw every race represented and in many cases conversing amongst each other. This raises more questions about what my race teaches its young apprentices, for this night I do not see such animosity but I do confess that this is my first outing into such a large and unknown world.

Something outside my previous experiences arose once outside of Etharan’s protected residence…a thought, a voice or perhaps more of a presence that I could sense…difficult to explain, but it grew the further inland we traveled. Now that we have returned to her home, it has vanished.
