What are we willing to do that Christ may be glorified through us? This allegorical story asks that question as the Lord comes in a dream presenting a series of choices in the from of doors containing a variety trials and tests that measure the strength of our faith and the extent we are willing to endure to glorify God.

In a dream, three doors stood before me. The Lord said to me, “Choose how you will glorify me with your life.

The first door opened and I stood amidst a huge coliseum where Christians were being put to death for their faith. Some were on crosses where they were to died as Christ had done. Some were to be eaten by wild beasts. Others were burned at the stake. Some were beheaded. And still others were to be skinned alive. After the Lord had showed me all the deaths that believers had suffered through the ages because they would not deny their faith in Christ, He said to me, “Can you drink of this cup that you might glorify me?” I responded, “I will gladly die that your name might be glorified through my death. For you gave your life for me, how can I do less? With that the executioner came and took me to the center of the coliseum, where I was to be beheaded.

The second door opened before me and I stood in the midst of a dark dungeon. Where the saints of old suffered in anguish and pain because they would not deny their faith in Christ. I saw John, the apostle, as he was lowered into a pot of boiling oil. I saw other believers as they were placed upon racks and stretched until their bones were disjointed and broken. Others were beaten with clubs and whips until their bodies were bloody from their wounds. The torturer repeated, “Recant! Recant and it all will stop.” To which the saints responded, “Do what you will we cannot deny our Lord who suffered like torment for us.” As this torment continued the Lord turned to me, “Will you drink of this cup to be tortured as these have done?” I said to the Lord, “I will gladly suffer at the hands of the torturer that you might be glorified. I will not deny nor recant my faith in you no matter the pain and suffering I am called to endure. With that I was taken by the torturer and placed upon the rack, where I was stretched. As my bones were disjointed and began to crack, I heard the tormenter say, “Recant and turn from your faith!” And I repeated, “I will not recant nor will I deny the Lord who suffered as much for me.”
