A beginning of a short story.
The rolling storm was ever present. The room was dimly lit, and the rain was loud against the windows. The storm had been constant for the past 3 days, and showed no signs of breaking.
Alex broke the silence: “Will it ever stop?”
It took a few seconds for the others to realise they were being spoken to, and the reply was slurred by Lulu.
“I don’t know… with any luck we can try and make for the town centre tomorrow… other than that I don’t know what we can do”
The silence endured for several more hours, and nobody got any sleep. They had not gotten sleep for the past 4 days… they couldn’t. Not with what was on their minds…
The light was only just streaming through the window, but everyone was already awake. It’s not like they got any sleep anymore. The dust on the windowsill was lit up, and the birds outside were starting to call. The rolling thunder was still there, it was never gone. A combination of all that they were avoiding; the tanks rolling through, the planes flying overhead, and the troops marching.
