A three year old girl climbs to the roof of a two story house to be with her grandfather.

In 1930, he decided to move his family to Middle Point where the younger children would have the opportunity to attend school. He proceed to build a make-shift house while he dismantled the two story one and transported it the six miles to Middle Point where he then rebuild it. His two youngest children, both boys were born there.

Still lost in thought Fred, stopped to wipe the sweat from his brow,  when a movement caught his eye followed by a barely auditable sigh and he spun around as if he were a man of twenty. There sitting on the roof smiling up at her grandfather as though climbing a twenty foot ladder to the roof was an everyday occurrence, sat three year old Ellen! Fred was to say later that he felt as if all his strength left him for a moment, how, he wondered had she ever managed, not only to climb the ladder but to get on the roof itself? In true childlike trust, she showed no fear but smiled as she held up her arms, ”uppy, grandfather, uppy”. Taking her in his arms , he carefully descended  the ladder to the ground. Fred would live another twenty-seven years but would never forget the day when he was certain that someone was watching over his little granddaughter who had just wanted to sit on the roof with “grandfather”.

What a good story. Yes, God was watching out for both of them that day.

This is very sweet. Everytime my Grandpa was ever fixing anything I would always sit with him.
