He gave an advice : “When you were failed, keep dreaming and keep having new dream everyday. Turn your dream into reality. Whoever you are, wherever you from, you can succeed if you never stop to believe and try. Stop despair, because it did not improve the situation, let’s start dreaming and change the fate”.

Experience is the most cruel teacher. Let’s take our eyes off the road for a moment. We’ll never strange with the name of “Honda”, one of the biggest company in automotive industry. Honda had various brand of vehicles, the four-wheel vehicles, motorcycles, racing motor, etc. Honda have everything. However, perhaps rarely of us who know how the story of the founder of Honda who are doomed to failure.

He Is Soichiro Honda, the automotive father who never hold the title of engineer or professor nor the students who have a brilliant brain. During school, he did not want in the front of the class, he was always away from the view of his teacher. “I never had good achievement during school. But I’m not sad because my world around machinery, motorcycles and bicycles”, said the man who had died at the age of 84 due to liver disease.

At his starting career, Soichiro always haunted with the failure, illness, out of money and drop out of college. But he never stopped dreaming. His love to the machine is a legacy from his father who had opened the repair shop in Shizuko, Japan, where he was born. On his father’s workshop, Soichiro spent much time with the machines. At the age of 8 years, Soichiro willing to ride the bike as far as 8 miles just to watch the airplanes.

Soichiro love the machine is not in vain. At the age of 12, Soichiro create a bike with foot brakes models. However, it is not made him dreamed of being an automotive businessman. He realized from poor families. At the age of 15 years, he worked for Hart Shokai Company. His boss, Saka Kibara, very impressed with the way it works. Any suspicious noise or leak a drop of oil that did not escape from its control. At the age of 21 years, Soichiro accept his boss to lead a branch office in Hamamatsu. Here, his work is getting better. He has always receieved reparation which was denied by other shop. He works very fast and never care about the time. He known as the brilliand, good and creative worker.

As in those days, the radius of the car is still made of wood so as not to dampen strong shocks, Soichiro launched the idea to replace it with a trellis, metal trellis. Excellent, its sold very well and exported around the world. At age 30, he signed his first copyright and decided to create his own garage business. In 1938, he created a Piston Ring which was  rejected by Toyota because they do not meet the standards are not flexible and will not sell. Her friends had lamented him out of the garage. Soichiro quite seriously ill. After two months, his health recovered. While leading the workshop, he decided to study engineering to increase the knowledge of the machine. Came home from college during the day, he was immediately put into practice his knowledge in his garage. After two years, he was drop out because rarely follow the lecture. “I feel like dying, because when I get hungry, they didn’t gave me the foods, but gave me the theory” said Soichiro to the rector. He explained that the point of college is looking for knowledge, not a diploma. This explanation is considered an insult by the rector.

By his hardwork, finally his Piston Ring received by Toyota after several time fix it. He then set up factories. Unfortunately, the intention was when it ran aground because he could not obtain funding because Japan lost the war. He was eventually asked for support of his friends to set up factories. Disaster on the turn, during the war, the factory burned twice. He still did not give up! He ordered employees to take the remaining cans of benzene removed by U.S. forces as the material to set up factories. But once again, an earthquake destroyed the factory again. There is no other choice, Soichiro sell its piston ring factory in Toyota. After this he had tried all kinds of business, but all failed.

In 1947, Japan’s economy ravaged by war. Soichiro was selling his car to buy food for his family. In this difficult situation, he put a small motor on his bike. Apparently the idea of ”motorcycle” which is the forerunner of Honda cars are preferred by many people and sold well. From here, Soichiro then set up a bicycle factory and kesuksean never separated again from her hand.

Soichiro said, do not see success in the automotive field to cultivate, but look at the failures they experienced. “People see my success is only one percent, but they do not see the 99% failure”.

Here are five recipes the succeed from Soichiro Honda:
1. Always ambitious and young at heart
2. Respect sound theory, always find new ideas
3. Love your work
4. Look for a smooth work rhythm and harmony
5. Always remember the importance of research and cooperation
