Trisha and Jim Duguay’s love story is sad and beautiful. They seemed the perfect match for each other. His devotion to his wife is a perfect example of "til death do us part." Their honeymoon was spent in her hospital room in the ten days before her brain surgery. Jim lay in bed with Trisha and they talked over everything. He told her how much he loved her and comforted her in his arms. Some couples never in a life time have what Trish and Jim had in their few short days together.
Trisha and Jim Duguay’s Love Story
At about 9 a.m. Friday morning Trisha Rushing Duguay died. Her husband, Jim Duguay was by her side. She was rushed to the hospital four months ago just a short time after her wedding. She awoke with a blinding headache that morning, but it was her wedding day and she managed to get dressed and arrive at the church. She was in so much pain that she was taken to the hospital a short time later. Tests were made and a brain tumor was found. Trisha’s husband was with her all the way.
Trisha had always suffered from migraines so she wasn’t surprised when one came on before her wedding. She visited an urgent care clinic and the doctor prescribed medication. As far as she knew it was her usual migraine. But on the day of the wedding the pain was nothing like she had ever experienced before. She could barely stand to make it through the wedding ceremony and within 48 hours she was diagnosed with a brain tumor.

The couple had 10 days to honeymoon in Trisha’s hospital room before the surgery at North Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Ga. They discussed every possible outcome of the surgery.Trisha made Jim promise if she was in a vegetative state and there was no hope for recovery that he would release her .
At first the doctors were hopeful and surgery was performed. Trisha did rally after the surgery but she soon lapsed into a coma and doctors told Jim there was no chance of her recovery. Jim never left her side. He talked to her and told her how much he loved her, how happy he was that she had married him. He lay in bed with her and held her in his arms. Parents and family were there supporting the both of them.
Trisha held on for four months in a coma and then quietly slipped away. Jim and her parents honored Trisha’s request for release and had the feeding tube removed. It was a sad but merciful ending to a beautiful love story and the promises they made to each other that they couldn’t keep. Early Friday morning Jim held Trish in his arms as she took her last breath.
Jim Duguay created a Facebook page about Trisha. He wrote, “This morning my beautiful wife received her wings. For this Angel, my one request is that you remind those closest to you how much you love them and live each day with them as if it was your last.”
