A newspaper report about two teenagers killed on a camping trip by a local mythological figure.

This is an account of an attack on two teenagers during their camping trip. While there are no witness accounts the police department has graced us with the privilege of viewing the police reports along with local myth that could very well be true after all. Thomas Barkley and Trish Stevens left the neighborhood of Storrs Connecticut shortly after eating lunch with Trish’s parents. They were scheduled to go on a four day camping trip to a national park in Connecticut’s quiet corner. They arrived shortly before nightfall and were given the keys to cabin 45 located at the end of the trail. From what Thomas’s parents said, Thomas thought this would be the most romantic cabin on the lot, secluded with a close up view of the lake and the mountain situated on the west side of it. They were on the south side of the lake. After their first night they were seen in the local grocery with Thomas trying to calm Mrs. Stevens down. She seemed to be frightened and was shaking. Accounts from her journal give us further detail…

July 30th,
Last night was the most frightening of my life. I woke up at around 2:00 a.m. and noticed a light coming in through the window. I didn’t want to wake Thomas cause then if it was nothing he would probably joke about my nervousness for days. So I headed towards the window. When I looked out I saw a sight that made me let out an involuntary scream. There was a man, naked except for a pair of sneakers standing with a torch dancing in the moonlight. He was covered in a red liquid that I could swear was blood. My scream woke Thomas and he bolted out of the bed and started towards me. The wild man, I have nothing better to call him, heard me as well and disappeared into the trees taking his torch with him. Thomas saw a glimpse of movement and asked me what I’d seen. I was in hysterics but finally I calmed down enough to tell him. After hugging me and trying to calm me down for a while, he told me that it could have just been another one of the campers getting drunk and deciding to go to the lake. I didn’t really know what to say so I agreed. I went back to bed and was greeted by nightmares. Naked men with knives raiding cabins and then making their way towards mine… When I woke up this morning I was sweating from head to toe. I took a shower and then me and Tom went to the supermarket where I saw an article about a myth who lived in the woods close to where we were staying. Images of the previous night popped into my head after reading those words and I broke down. God only knows how much of a fool I must have looked like balling in the middle of the store. But I didn’t care. Now we are back at the cabin and Tom says if I still don’t feel ok about being here in the morning then we will leave, but I should at least try one more night. So hopefully tonight has no men clothed in nothing but shoes in store for us.
