An alien force threatens earth and six youths are there in the front lines whether they wanted to or not.
“Now, clear thy thoughts and gather ‘round. For tonight we will contact those passed deceased.” They all came close, formed a circle, and joined hands.
“Now empty your minds and hear the whispers of those restless spirits. Those other-worldly beings. Those entities from the other side. Listen and hear their songs of sadness, and despair.” Shelly said in a lowered tone… quiet, not a sound was herd except a cricket off in the woods. This was so until Shelly began to sing.
Oh, hear ye, oh spirits.
Come and hear my song.
Make thy way to peaceful rest.
And make your hearts gone.
Cast away your fear of death.
Join those lost and loved.
From long trip to thy final bed.
Make thy way above.
See the end of time.
Take to heart this rhyme.
Sleep away oh restless souls.
And end thy life of time.
When she ended the last stanza, the other five looked at her and she returned their gaze with equal confusion.
“What? That was my part to our senior poem.”
“We didn’t expect you to say it again after graduation.” Sam said still slightly confused.
“Well, what did you contribute?”
“Well…” Sam began to fidget as he tried to recall what he did write. “My part wasn’t as good; I basically threw a bunch of words together and kind of made a story.”
“Nothing wrong with that, dude. A work of art doesn’t have to rhyme, nor make sense. As long as you like it, you have done well.”
Sam looked at the fire and poked a log with a metal pole, sending a flurry of red embers soaring upwards toward the tree-top. He watched the small red orbs cool and turn invisible against the black night. He turned to the left a bit and noticed the moon.
“Look!” Sam pointed out the eclipse had started. The moon had turned deep red except for a small crescent on the left. “Almost there.” Sam looked at his watch. “Just another four minutes.” Sam said, but no one was listening, they were all distracted by a falling star.
