A fictional short story novel about an adventure by three friends in the jungles of Africa. It will make your blood flow with excitement.
At around 10:00 p.m. we had our dinner of fried fish and mashed potatoes, that was filling and a cold glass of fresh juice made it a complete meal. Molly was the cook for the night we all agreed to cook in turns to ease the load of labour.
It was already midnight when we all retired to sleep; Tom volunteered to sleep in the van since he had to keep an eye in case of any intrusion. The rest of us we each coiled ourselves in our sleeping bags and slept.
Honestly I had one eye open as I watched the entrance to our tent for any trace of shadow, and my ears were more alert than ever. The sounds of the crickets, frogs filled the air. My heart beat so fast, I just could not sleep my imaginations of being hurled away by some animal while asleep kept me up. Kanga and Amani seemed to be deep in sleep maybe because they did not nap like me in the afternoon, sleep came easily for them. Kanga was even snoring away like he was at home!
I made sure that my cell phone was nearby and that Tom our tour guide’s number was on speed dial. I think this was going to be a long night for me, the night was quite the wind blew the trees and the crickets and frogs seemed to be singing their night songs.
I decide to listen to some music on my walkman to take my mind off the night and perhaps it will soothe me to sleep. While listening to lyrics of Silent Dreams a song by Yolanda Evas, I Suddenly saw a shadowy figure of an animal looking like creature, pass by our tent my heart sunk with fear; I could literally hear the sound of my heart beat! What was that? I did not even move an inch, I thought of waking up Kanga and Amani but they were both snoring away.
I rang Tom and whispered to him to check what was moving outside our tent, I was too scared to raise my voice in case whatever it was heard me and came to attack me. With the help of the moonlight there was some level of brightness, Tom shone his torch at the animal and only to find out it was a warthog looking for food so he chased it away. I was glad that at least Tom was awake; the rest of the campers seemed to be deep in sleep which was really scary too. It was only the two of us awake!
