A dialogue between sisters regarding co-sleeping with your infant. Fiction. Debate about whether you should sleep in the same bed as your infant. Describes good reasons you should not and good reason you should have a family bed. Tells that again, this is your decision.
Whose bed is whose?
During her maternity leave, and three weeks before the due date of her first child, Paige waits for her sister to come over to her house. They are going to put the finishing touches on the baby’s nursery. She is very excited to share this time with her sister. They do not hang out together very much because Paige works full time as an account executive for AT&T. Paige’s sister, Penelope, is a stay at home mom of two. Paige is looking forward to enjoying some mommy to mommy talk today.
Paige: Hi Penny! Come on in, I’m so glad you’re here. Does mom have the kids today?
Penelope: Yeah, she has Dustin but Dillon is in school. Look at your baby belly! You’re gorgeous! I’m anxious to see what you have done with the baby’s room.
Paige: Come on let’s check it out.
Penelope: This is beautiful, oh wow…. I love the crib, it is so nice, oh my god, is that a Celestial Parade crib set?
Paige: Yes, and it was so expensive I almost hate to mess it up by putting the baby in the crib to sleep on it, isn’t that ridiculous?
Penelope: I think that it is a bad reason not to put the baby in the crib. But I can think of plenty of good reasons you shouldn’t.
Paige: Reasons not to put her in her crib? Hugh? What do you mean? You wouldn’t put her in the crib? Did they invent a better bed for her that I don’t know about?
Penelope: As a matter of fact, they did! It is called your bed!
Paige: What are you crazy or are you kidding? Mom taught us better than that. It would be dangerous. Oh no, the boys don’t sleep with you, do they?
Penelope: Yeah they do. Well, Dillon sleeps in his own bed most nights now because he chooses to. But, yes, Dustin still sleeps with us.
