Two ultra-short vampire vignettes.
In homage to the current fascination with vampires, here’s a contribution to the genre.
One Heartbeat
Just one heartbeat. That’s all it took for my fangs to slice through the skin of your neck, cleaving the thin layer of muscle, seeking the warm pulse of your vein, breaking the vessel wall. One heartbeat to send your blood spraying into my mouth, driven by the thrust of your young and vigorous heart.
One heartbeat that faltered.
One heartbeat.
Your last.
oooOOOooo
Sweetheart
I called you my sweetheart.
Not because we’d known each other from childhood. Not because we were lovers. But because I was kneeling over your still warm corpse, your torso ripped open, one breast hanging by a sinew, ribcage torn apart, flesh shredded, gobbets of bloody meat stuck to my talons. I thrust my face into the gory cavity that had been your chest and my fangs tore away the last layers covering the vital muscle that until moments ago had sent your lifeblood pumping round you.
I bit deep.
Oh sweet, sweet heart.
