The beginning to an alien invasion as the United States sends out the USS Constant to meet the darkness head-On These flash fiction captain’s log entries will detail the accounts…

April 15, 1961 Captain’s Log:

The USS Constant came to a near complete stop on the Atlantic Ocean, and took up its previous position, facing the darkness. It was at that location where the sky and the ocean met.

The crew was calmer. They were going about their business as if they were unencumbered by unfamiliar emotions.

As captain of this vessel I wasn’t afraid to admit, that I felt a ping of fear holding on to my insides very tightly. It was a grip that I couldn’t shake loose. However, instead of dreading the unknown, I welcomed it. I didn’t want to think about war.

At least, not yet.

If I could convince them to negotiate then all the worries would be solved. But who was I to negotiate with? The invasion was coming from the sky. An alien race.

I wasn’t sure what to fear most, the darkness or the unknown. But I knew that something a person feared always looked bigger…

You can convey fear and uncertainity very well in this poem. I think fear of the unknown is worse.
