Just when you know someone, you find out you really don’t.
For others it can just be they choose not to see.
People must learn to accept one another for who they are, and not for what they are.
As they sat on the balcony over looking the city, they held hands, and enjoyed the view. The warm fresh air felt very calming to Vinny, since his day was so insane. He had taken a half a day off from work to get out of the city early, before rush hour began. He was going to visit with his parents and siblings, enjoy dinner and talk to them, about finally finding someone he loved.
Dinner was absolutely delicious, mom did an excellent job of preparing the roast leg of lamb with cranberries, along with rosemary marinated potatoes and broccoli. He had arrived there about 4:30, which gave his much younger siblings time to get their homework done before he arrived. Lena was eleven and Patrick was nine, there was a huge gap between them and him, since he was going on twenty-three. His parents had him when they were in there late teens. Mom was only seventeen when she got pregnant and eighteen when he was born, and dad was nineteen, so they did what was right and got married. It was hard for them, but they managed, dad got a good education and when Vinny started school, mom worked part-time. They were both very out going, and social, and most importantly the seemed open minded to everything that went on around them. He was about twelve when mom had Lena and fourteen when they had Patrick; it was a sudden change from being an “only” child, but he enjoyed helping his mom with the two little ones.
Still looking out over the city, he refilled both their glasses with a more wine, and asked if there was anything else, while he was going back inside. No, was the respond, I have a glass of our favorite wine, and you, what more can I ask for. With that Vinny sat down, let out a sigh, and finally began to relax.
Still very quiet his mind drifted back to his parents, he never thought they would be so close minded, they were young his mom was forty and dad was forty one, but what happen tonight was so un expected.
After dinner at his parents, he helped his mom with clearing the kitchen, and he spoke to her about his new love, his mom was very attentive as they loaded the dishwasher. She seemed very happy for him. Lena and Patrick wanted Vinny to come and play a video game; he told them just a minute I have to speak with mom and dad. As they left the kitchen he could not believe how they had grown up, when he first moved out at eighteen, they were only seven and five, as a matter of fact Patrick was starting kindergarten. Oh how that seemed so long ago.
