We had some unexpected visitors join us.

The warmth of the setting sun cascades upon the large, bare mountains to the east of the city. Glimmering sun rays illuminate Rita’s face and rich blonde hair, making her figure almost goddess-like in the golden light. As she decides to head home after a day resting outside, her ears begin to ring from a loud booming noise that just seems to get louder and louder until she can’t stand it anymore and stares into the distance, searching, but she sees nothing. The absence of whatever is making the horrendous sound makes her uneasy, and slowly she turns her attention upward, to the sky and sees a large object barreling down faster and faster, down it falls just a little ways from the city in which she lives. The noise stops. Silence begins to surround her like an ominous cloud and she can’t stop staring in the direction of where the object had fallen. By the time she reaches the city the sky is already a deep blue dotted with small shining stars scattered as if someone threw some glitter up and it never came down.

Rita doesn’t feel the presence of anyone around and wanders through the wide, empty streets toward the crash. The city could be considered more of a town because of its small population, but it was a large producer of clothing and other products. Most factories were only run by a small group of people, maybe five to ten, because large robotic machines did the majority of the work and the people only monitored them. As she began to reach the outskirts of the city where the strange object had landed she began to hear people beyond the buildings and all had different tones of voice. Some were happy and excited, others calm and methodical, and of course many were panicked and baffled. Rita was both happy and puzzled at what happened because she was farther away when the object collided with the ground. It seemed like the whole city was here all bunched together to get a good look at what the thing was yet still trying to keep a safe distance from this unknown monstrosity.

The foreign object was large and bright, with a shiny white color, small insignias, and had a strange language that no one had ever seen. Someone out of the crowd gathered enough courage to walk up to the object; he even touched it but quickly withdrew because of its strange feel. As he turned to rejoin the crowd the great thing began to move and a part of it opened; people began screaming for him to return because it must have wanted to eat him. Rita, far at the back of this crowd could only listen to the screams and imagine the worst. She could no longer stand for being kept out of whatever was going on, so she attempted to push her way to the front of this dam of people blocking her view. Back near the object, from the opening emerged several things all tall around six and a half feet or more. They had no face but what seemed like a sort of bubble where there face should be. Identical, every one of them looked the same, their large suits matched and so did their reflective bubble-like heads. No expressions could be made out and the crowd became a cemetery, no noise as if they were all dead. Waiting, watching these things move out from the belly of the great object. They did not seem threatening from their cumbersome movements but no one wanted to assume they were entirely peaceful.
