Vampire lore – new and old.

Vampires are the age-old creatures that have been around for centuries. Everyone knows what they are. Most people have read a book, or seen a film.

Most of you also know about the lore of vampires: they drink blood, aversion to sunlight, stake through the heart will kill them, abhor crucifixes. Surprisingly, sunlight was only adopted from F. W. Murnau’s Nosferatu (1922); they needed an ending and that seemed appropriate Orlock – the vampire – would die in the morning sun. Those who have read Dracula should remember that he walked around in the sunm and it never bothered him! Blade used silver in the movie – usually a way of harming werewolves, and also another way developed in film by the writer of The Wolf Man (1941).

In this current world we live, the basis of fact on these creatures has gone, but people did once believe. In some eastern European countries there is some belief still, and they bury bodies of suicides with stakes in their hearts. Books and movies – even television – have manipulated the idea now to near exhaust. There will always be something new for a vampire to do, or be destroyed as they have no fixed lore – unless you are extremely die hard on a set way.
