It was the dead of night when he came in, the full moon shining above him. Only the sound of the far-off distant owls and the wind thought the trees could be heard.

“Thank you for that information. Whoever, or whatever this thing is, I’ll sort it out. Just tell the mayor that I’ll be expecting double payment.”

Later, Avner walked alone among the ruins outside the Manor, pushing past the large weeds that had grown. He drew out two pistols, perfectly identical in make, both made of pure silver with mahogany grip. He also pulled out a chain from around his neck, kissing it and then placing it against his well-built chest making it visible.

He arrived at the entrance to the Massive mansion, taking in a deep breath, preparing himself. He knocked three times against the wooden door that stood in front of him like the gates to hell. Suddenly the doors lurched forward, to reveal a pail faced man, his teeth gleaming noticeably. The man smiled at Avner, then noticed the necklace around Avner’s neck, a silver cross shimmering in the moon light. The man looked at it in horror, turning away quickly and taking flight up the stairs. Avner smiled. He had his vampire.

Avner let his cloak fall behind him, and took chased after the vampire. He took bounding steps up the stair case, leaping across rotten floor boards until he came to a closed door. There was light under the door, that wasn’t right. Vampires don’t like light unless it is necessary, like summoning a demon. A demon.

Avner took a crossbow out of his back pack, loading it with his special ammunition. Holy water ammunition. He took a step back from the door, and then rushed in with a kick to the door that made it fly across the room like a dart, logging itself into the wall. Firing shots into the room with his crossbow, it rained nails across the room, slamming into the partially summoned demon. One shot went wide, almost hitting the vampire. The vampire turned around and hissed at him, spraying gore across the ground, and then taking flight through the window.

“Dam it! That’ll be only half payment for me!” cursed Avner.
