A small short story of a faery.

The newly fallen snow glistens crimson in the departing sunset. Many trees had already traded their jade leaves for the brilliant colors of carrot and gold. The dazzling water of the Pacific Ocean sprays delicately on the Alaskan shore while the stars in the twilight sky begin to sparkle as the daylight hours slowly fade into dusk. Everything is ready for the beautiful Aurora Borealis, also known as the northern lights, to emerge in the heavens yet again. Perfect in every way, this was an ideal time to snap a few photos of the magnificent natural display in the sky.

That was what auburn-haired, navy-eyed Dr. Don Quixote was thinking when he was perched on the side of Mount Wakka Wakka Wally. As a scientist studying the Aurora, he needed some high-definition pictures to analyze the occurrence of the Northern lights, and was satisfying himself by video taping the phenomenon. What he failed to notice immediately was the appearance of a new miniature, seemingly invisible, individual with butterfly wings.

A stunning creature, a fairy, looking very human was seen in that videotape. Her hair, raven black, curled about her face with striking perfection. She had radiant emerald, almond shaped eyes that twinkled in the setting sun. Her glittery pink dress sparkles against her graceful figure. Monarch butterfly wings attached to her slender body flutter in the wind as she darts here and there, faster than the speed of light, singing a happy lullaby. Then….

…all of time freezes. The world falls asleep at the sound of her musical voice. The school of fish in the Pacific Ocean stop swimming, the sly fox stops chasing the frightened rabbit, and the sodden raindrops stop plummeting to earth. Dr. Quixote snores quickly as the pixie begins to do her ritual dance.

Dipping her fingers in the shimmering water of the Pacific, she glides this way and that painting a picture throughout the starry sky. The Aurora Borealis. The northern lights. Beauty beyond the pure imagination. Finishing her astounding display, she blows sparkles off the tip of her slim hands and the world awakens once more to enjoy the splendor of the northern lights.

Awakening from the pixy dust, Dr. Quixote has no knowledge that anything out of the ordinary. After watching, (and taping) the event with no evident mishaps, Dr. Quixote returned home to look at his finding of the miraculous northern lights. Using the finest technology available, he fine-tuned the cartridge so that it was magnified 1000 times past the view of the naked eye and is virtually shocked at the discovery of a live fairy.

“I saw it in this here videotape,” states Dr. Quixote solemnly. “A blooming fairy zooming in the purple-ish sky up there.”

More cameramen will be out there tonight hoping for a glimpse of this pixie. Next episode we hope to have a real life conversation with this aura fairy. There’s a whole new world to discover.
