Short story on watching 3D movies.

The first time I heard of it, I was ecstatic. It probably would have been months delayed since it reached our country, but I’m still thankful it did. Before I would only get to see 3D shows in theme parks like our very own Enchanted Kingdom. But 3D movies?! I was like in awe. Makes me wonder, am I really in a 3rd world country? Or am I in a 3rd world country with 1st world amenities?

Anyway I went out and tried it! My boyfriend and I went to the IMAX theater at the SM Mall of Asia and I remember watching the movie Ant Bully in 3D. It was like I went back in time and became a child again. It looked very real! Yeah I know you may say I’m over-rating it. Maybe. But I still say it’s great. Only, you would need to be in the center of the theater to really appreciate this. And somewhere at the back. If you’re like in the front row located laterally to the left or right, it might be hard to position yourself propery in a way that would create double images in the 3D glasses. it’s kind of a uncomfortable but manageable. What else? I say the price. Well, we did try the IMAX theater so I suppose we should have expected a high price. If you’re more of budget-conscious, you may try the digital theaters that offer 3D viewing to cut down on the price. I hear it’s just as nice.

And my craving did not end there. Since what we watched was an animation, I wanted to try this with a real-life motion picture (wait, did i just say real-life motion picture? confusing. haha) You get what I mean. So we tried it on Harry Potter! And yes. I felt like I was a dementor for a sec. Really convincing. However, I was sort of not informed that it was just like for 5-10 minutes at the start of the film. So I was like, it was a 2D movie with some 3D. Not only that, we were in the position I dreaded to be in. We were like breaking our necks to get the view fixed. Then again, it was just 10 minutes.

Thank heaven for James Cameron. He is a g-e-n-i-u-s. And his creation that was named Avatar, incredible! A full-length 3D movie of real people. Well actually, the Na’vi weren’t real but this took everything to the next level. And the level after that! We were at the edge of our seat. My boyfriend hated 3D movies after Ant Bully but became a sucker for it after Avatar. Life changing. For him. And so every 3D movie that comes up, you’ll see us in line.
