REAL STORY THAT HAPPENED BACK IN 1980 TO A YOUNG TWO YEAR OLD BABY GIRL WHO ALMOST LOST HER LIFE.
It was back in February of 1980, when a mother was devastated when she had to rush her two year old daughter to the emergency room in Simpsonville, South Carolina; after calling the family practitioner. When arriving at Hillcrest Hospital, the doctor, Dr. Whittenburg, was running through the parking lot to get what was now the lifeless little two year old girl. He told the mother to sign her daughter in; then, come back to the E.R. room, where he would be with her little girl. So, the mother did just as the doctor ordered. When arriving in the E.R. room with the doctor, her daughter, and the nurses, she noticed Dr. Whittenburg was steady working on her little girl, not saying a word to anyone. The nurses looked over at the mother and told her it might be best if she stepped back away so they could help the doctors revive this little two year old baby girl who wasn’t responding to anything. All the mother could do was pray the doctors and nurses wouldn’t give up to soon on her little girl. She has stated over the years, “It was only seven minutes, but it felt like a lifetime.” The other doctors and nurses on duty that day were astonished to find out Dr. Whittenburg had not giving up after three or four minutes, knowing what the outcome could pertain.
Many things could have happened due to Dr.Whittenburg working on the little girl for so long. The little girl could have lost her life, never walked again, or could have never learned how to speak another word. But, thanks to the hard work the doctors and nurses at Roger C. Peace and the help and encouragement of her mother, the little girl learned how to walk, talk, run, and play just the same as other children her age. She has grown up to have two beautiful boys of her own who are very smart and making straight A’s in school. She has crossed many obsticles in life but never fell short in anything. This little girl who is now a thirty-two year old mother who cherishes her life and thanks god everyday for giving her a second chance at life. She has even seen Dr. Whittenburg through the years and been able to thank him for not giving up on her life back in 1980. She says even though she has to wear a brace on her leg at times to straighten the muscles, it’s all worth having her life here on earth each day.
