When all fails: pg. one.

She was gone. Swann knew that she would reappear at the end of the last movement, after all one long piece that pianist Verdurin always jumping. There were some admirable ideas which Swann had not distinguished at the first hearing, and he perceived now as if they were in the cloakroom of his memory, even removed the disguise of novelty. Swann listened to all the themes that scattered in the composition of the sentence, as in the premises the necessary conclusion, he attended its genesis. “O great too bold perhaps, he thought, than that of a Lavoisier, an amp, the boldness of a Vinteuil experimenting, discovering the secret laws of an unknown force, leading through the unexplored, to the only possible goal, coupling invisible which it relies, and not perceive it not. “The beautiful Swann heard that dialogue between the piano and violin at the beginning of the last piece! The removal of human words, far from letting fancy reign, as one would have thought the were eliminated; never spoken language was not so inflexible necessity, never knew at that point the relevance of questions, evidently the answers. At first the piano complained alone, like a bird abandoned by his companion heard the violin, replied as a nearby tree. It was like the beginning of the world, as if there were still two of them on earth, or rather in this closed world to the rest, built by the logic of a creator and that they do would never be that both of them, this sonata. Is it a bird, is still incomplete the soul of the little phrase, is a fairy, invisible and groaning with the piano then said again tenderly complaint? Her screams were so sudden that the violinist was rushing to his bow to collect it. Wonderful bird! the violinist seemed to charm, to tame it, capture it. He had already passed into his soul, already mentioned the little phrase waved like a medium body really possessed by the violinist. Swann knew she was about to speak again.
