A time-travel romance.
Michaela pulled into the driveway, exhausted as usual, after a nine hour day at work with no breaks. Her legs hurt so bad she could hardly walk to the car to come home. She rested her head on the steering wheel.
“Lord, please let him be in a good mood,” she prayed. She knew Aiden would be upset with her being thirty minutes late getting home again.
“I’d better get inside before I fall asleep,” she told herself.
“Where have you been?” Aiden asked as she walked through the door. “You should have been home thirty minutes ago!”
“My relief was late getting there,” Michaela said.
“Well, the kids and I are hungry. You need to get supper cooked,” Aiden said angrily.
“Hi, Mom,” Abigail said giving her mom a hug. “I’m really not hungry.”
“Me, either,” said Joel. “We had a pizza party after school. I’d be okay if we didn’t have supper.”
“What should I fix if you two aren’t eating?” Michaela asked.
“Spaghetti?” Abigail suggested. “He likes it well enough.”
Michaela walked into the living room.
“Is spaghetti okay with you? Abigail and Joel aren’t eating.”
“Why aren’t they eating?” Aiden asked. “Don’t they want to be around me? You’ve turned them against me!”
“They had a pizza party after school! They’re not hungry! Not everything is about you!” Michaela said barely holding back her temper.
“I don’t care what you fix, I’m just hungry!” Aiden said.
“Skillet rice, it is,” Michaela said picking something that was quick and easy to cook.
“I don’t want your stupid skillet rice!” Aiden yelled. “I want something with meat in it.”
Michaela turned to face him and took a deep breath.
“I just spent nine hours on my feet with no break and I’m not in the mood to decode what you want for supper or to listen to you rant and rave when you don’t want what I decide to fix! In fact you can fix your own supper because my legs hurt and I’m too tired to cook or to eat. I’m going to bed!”
“You don’t want to do anything to help this family. All you want to do is sit on your butt at home. You’re a lazy, unsubmissive, unsupportive wife!”
