I was asked to make a meal for my family over the thanksgiving long weekend. It was an assignment given to me by my 12th grade sociology teacher. I never would have thought this would ever happen.

This assignment had to be one of the best assignments I have had in a long time. I had never realized how complicated it was to prepare a full meal. I’m so used to just throwing stuff in the microwave that I never knew how much time and effort is required to make a decent and healthy meal. The easiest part was eating the food and washing the dishes. The hardest part was by far preparing all the food. I had originally attempted at making breakfast but the waffle iron thought otherwise. After putting about half a can of pam on the waffle iron the waffle still got stuck to the waffle iron which required me to pry it off with a knife. The waffle was delicious in pieces I could only imagine how delicious it would have been in one piece. My next attempt was at making a pancake. I had the bright idea to try and make a jumbo pancake (seemed like a great idea at the time) but I soon realized that it was virtually impossible to flip the pancake since I did not have a jumbo spatula. So I had to come up with a plan b quick, the fries were almost ready and I had a ham in the fridge and corn in the cupboard. So I raced around the kitchen throwing the corn into a bowl and cutting and placing the ham on the plates while also making sure the fries were well cooked.  The meal however was delicious. I enjoyed the meal very much and so did my brother who was the only family member in my house the whole weekend. I was expecting this assignment to be a piece of cake (something which I am pretty good at making). However, I was disappointed in myself. I had always thought I was somewhat of a chef. I once believed I was a better cook then both my mother and father.  Sadly I have a lot to learn. I am very fortunate that my father can cook.  During this assignment I learned that things don’t always go as planned and to always have a plan b. I also learned that it is important to develop these important skills at a young age. Last but not least, I am fortunate enough to have a caring and loving father who can actually cook fairly well.
