Very few people understand the concept.

You’re adouche bag….. There I said it. Someone had to and I’m glad it was me damn it.

Now some of you reading this might find this statement to be not particularly productive. I would argue that someone acting like that and being unaware that they are like that they should have it brought to their attention in order for them to correct their behaviour or at the very least learn a little something about themselves.

”But Jamie you can’t just go around calling people douche bags” I hear you say. May I ask why?

”Because there are no objective guidelines for determining if what you say is true therefore you’re characterization of someone as an douche bag is based on your subjective beliefs.”

That is absolutely true but I would remind you that constructive criticism is also subjective. In fact someone not capable of taking criticism could argue that all criticism is not constructive because it does not help them. The exact opposite thing could be said of someone who takes criticism well they could argue that even criticism that does not at first appear constructive could help them understand the way people perceive their creations.

”Well if everything is subjective the only way for our world to function is seek out and destroy everything that offends our individual sensibilities that’s the only way this will work right?”

What no what the hell are you talking about (why do my literary devices always end up taking a real funny turn on me.)

I would argue that the only way to clear the obstacles of subjective taste is for everyone saying whatever  they want.

I have heard numerous people on Triond claim that it is there right to delete comments that they find rude, unintelligent, not constructive or just generally not to your individual tastes. I could not disagree more.

Perhaps now would be a good time to explain the title. If you claim the right to delete something you find offensive or blasphemous or whatever your excuse du jour is you are joining a very exclusive club that admits very few members into its hallowed halls. As far as I know dictators all ways have some sort of excuse for why they are restricting people’s ability to speak out.

I have to agree with Triond that we have too many words in the dictionary to have to use swear words. That is what I told all my children and grandchildren. I’m of the opinion that a clean mouth is a more respectful than a dirty mouth. Of course if you have no respect for anybody, swear all you want.

Loved to have read the original.

I may not agree with what you say, but I’ll defend your right to say it!
