A fictional story on size of the ostriches.

Long ago, ostriches were very small – about the same size as pigeons.  Unlike other birds, the ostriches not only fly but they also loved to run.   There was a special kind of seeds that was their favorite food.  This food was also shared by a certain kind of hopping animal.

One day, a small meteor crashed into the area and contaminated the seeds.  It caused the seeds to glow in the night.  However, the ostriches did not notice the seed was glowing because in the day time, the glow was not visible.  The radiation caused the ostrich and the other animals to grow big.

Soon, the ostriches could no longer fly – they were now too big for their wings to carry them.  However, they did not miss flying since they could still run and their legs were strong enough to carry them fast.  The other creature also grew and is now the biggest animal that hops.

I then asked my children to guess the hopping animal.  My son first guessed a “Tiger”.  My daughter thought for a while and answered “Kangaroo”.

One of the ostriches was thirsty and went to a river for a drink.  She was horrified by the reflection and ran and hid her head in a hole in the ground.  The other ostriches thought that was cute and did the same thing.  When they had their head in the ground they thought they were hiding as they used to when they were much smaller.

In time the seeds were no longer contaminated but the ostriches and kangaroos kept their size.
