Part One: The Ball
Baroque music wafted through the great hall of the Wutherford mansion. A hoard of people were eating, dancing and taking into great conversation with each other. All was well. The Halloween ball an annual gathering had been happening for the better part of the last twenty years. An assortment of masks could be seen everywhere demonic, comedic and beautiful could be seen all over. The three stained glass windows oversaw it all, beautiful intricacies they were. One with god and two with the opposites one sad, one happy.
The master of the house sitting at one of the banquet tables was waiting there nervous as if he were waiting for something. His hooked nose told everything to where he came from who he was and certainly his status in society. He was there for better or for worse. A young man had caught his eye. The aura radiant, the young man blonde hair, black tuxedo sat sipping champagne as he greeted those he did not know with a short bow. He ducked through a door to the gallery.
He entered a long hallway line with magnificent paintings and portraits. The boy paused at one for a few moments to admire the handiwork in which whomever painted it. The eccentric paintings bored him he wasn’t used to this kind of fancy party. He wasn’t even supposed to be there. He hadn’t been invited at all. The young gentlemen came to a painting at the end. It was a painting of the great hall the three stained glass windows were there, the grand staircase was painted in ruins the carpet disheveled. An interesting piece he thought. “Hello,” an angelic voice up from behind him.
The boy turned around, “ oh, hello. You gave me a fright.”
“I hope I did not frighten you too much,” she chuckled a little “,My name is Catherine, Catherine Wutherford.”
The boy glimmered at the site of here. The ball gown she wore was flowing all on its own. She gave an innocent smile. “I’m Robert Shien,” the boy smiled back quickly and then turned back to the painting as if he weren’t interested.
