With the light, each person can see his or her neighbor and his or her surrounding environment. They also use light from the pillar of fire to see clearly any activity they are involved in at night-like cooking, playing some game for leisure and relaxation. The fire and light also scare away wild animals.

Now at the mountain side of mount Sinai, God descends (in the morning) on mount Sinai, in a great blaze of fiery glory. A thick cloud is on the mountain. There is a very loud and prolonged blast of trumpet sound. There are also thunderings and lightening flashes. The whole mountain itself is quaking greatly. And also the people tremble.

 There is cloud cover on the mountain. Fire is burning on the mountain and smoke also covers the mountain. Angels are seen in this cloud and smoke. One of the angels is the one sounding the trumpet while other angels are making fantastic things happen this day, which are all in the book. And they are in the bible too.

Moses calls out: ‘Lord God!!!’

God: ‘Yes Moses. Come up here to the top of the mountain.’ Moses goes up. God now gives him an instruction which must be urgently carried out.

 God says: ‘Go down and warn the people, telling them not to loose self control and break through the barrier to gaze at the Lord, lest many of them perish.’

 Moses: ‘The people cannot come up to mount Sinai, for we have set bounds around it and consecrated it, as you earlier warned us to do.’

 God: ‘Away! Get down. Then come up with Aaron. Let the priests who come near the LORD consecrate themselves; but do not allow the priests and the people to break through to come up to the LORD, lest He (the Lord God) break out against them and they perish.’

 MOSES NOW COMES DOWN FROM THE MOUNTAIN TOP

He says to the people: ‘Heh! People, control yourselves; do not be over excited; to break through the mountain bounds; to go up the mountain and try to gaze at the LORD. For the LORD has told me to warn you about this as He did some days ago. Don’t make such moves so that you do not perish.’

 THE PEOPLE NOW STAND AFAR

They say to Moses; ‘These happenings are so terrifying. You be communicating to us what God says (informations and instructions). Be the go-between for us and God; but let not God speak with us directly again so that we do not die.’

 Moses: ‘Don’t be afraid; for God has come to see how you will respond to Him in His presence. He has come so that you really believe that He is very real, and so that you have an idea of His Al mightiness, and therefore have the regard, awe, and reverence of God that keeps you from sin.’

 The People: ‘God has surely shown us His glory and greatness. We will die if we hear God’s voice again; the great fire will consume us.’

 After speaking to the people, Moses draws near the thick darkness were God is.

 Having Himself heard the peoples’ speech to Moses, God now says to Moses: ‘I have heard all that the people have said. They are right in all they have said.’

 GOD CONTINUES IN A LOVING EXCLAMATION:

‘Oh, that they had such a heart in them that they would fear me and always keep all my commandments, that it might be well with them and with their children forever!’

 This was a most spectacular event never seen or heard of before on earth. God’s presence was not in the cloud. His presence was in the fire. (Exodus 19:18); but the fire and His presence descended into the cloud that arrived the mountain before His (God’s) arrival. The people did not see God; but they definitely saw and felt His presence. He was physically present in some form in the fire, and He answered Moses by voice. (Exodus 19:19) He also spoke the Ten Commandments to the people by voice. (Exodus Chapter 20); not in the spirit realm. This physical manifestation of God in Power, Glory, majesty and Might clearly showed the people the infinite superiority of their God to the so called gods of the other nations.
