In response to Duff’s challenge, a psychopathic artist creates an enduring tableau surrounding his blushing bride.

Writer’s Challenge #9- Blushing Bride/Artist

                                                            By David Crerand

Her screams tore holes in the night.  It had been two hours now and, except for brief pauses to catch her breath and rest her ragged throat; the screaming had been nearly continuous. He accepted it for what it was, applause to his magnificence.

“Yes my darling,” he wooed her, “drink in the beauty of my gallery. Soon, you too shall be enshrined.”

The artist began to lay out his tools on the rolling cart before him. It was an unorthodox collection of knives, cleavers, garden tools and strange implements that he had discovered when he broke into a mortuary during his formative years. He had become well versed in their designed applications and had even come up with a few improvisations of his own. He looked around at the walls of his tool room that were covered with sketches that had become the blueprints for his masterpieces. No one had ever contemplated works such as these, he assured himself. No one had ever dared open these doorways. His eyes came to rest on the drawing of the ring bearer. The head and torso of a young boy, the hairy arms and legs of a chimpanzee, all meticulously sutured into place, arms extended forward, holding the tiny satin pillow with the wedding band of wound barbed wire.

He had had to learn so much to achieve the vision that had come to him so long ago. The first killing had simply been to relieve the frustration and anger he felt after allowing himself to be caught up in and ultimately trapped by a loveless relationship. But, once the body was lying there on the floor before him, he truly saw for the first time what it would take to be completely free. And it would be a declaration of freedom that once completed, he could proudly unveil to the world.

David you have moved the boundrie of triond a little further out. Very nice very nice indeed. this is yet another story of yours that would make an excellent tales from the crypt or darkside episode. Very good pacing and the holes in the story are a rich repository for the readers imagination. My hats off to you yet again for a marvelous addition.

Holy crap – that was amazing – very bloody disturbing – but amazing. I think I am glad I only know you online though – yikes.

I agree with other posters. Captivating. Great use of words to convey your imagery. Masterful.

Ohhh boyyy..a very chilling story..about a psychopathic artist whose modus operandi is killing the people who have supposedly wronged him in the past and “collecting” their body parts as trophies. Seamless writing David :-)
