We spend too much time trying to figure out what to buy for who, not appreciating the day in general. Sure everyone enjoys getting gift, but I think we have forgotten the most important gift. (LOVE)

Lets add something a little extra to our Christmas Holiday, (LOVE).  Christmas marks the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, it just appears that numerous other traditions have been mixed with the originals.  Born in a manger, in the town of Bethlehem was Christ The Savior.  Then came the three wise men bearing gifts. That is such a beautiful story, and lovely to watch the church pageant rein-acted by our precious little ones. So why has Christmas become so commericalized? Our pastor refuses to have a typical, traditional Christmas pageant and gift giving at the church, yes we do sing hymns, the pastor’s sermon is based on a new born king and how Christmas first came into existence.  But he is terribly upset at the fact that we forgot the reason for the season.

I too have become caught up in the commercialized portion of Christmas.  I love filling my home with fragrant Christmas scents, sitting by the tree with a child-like wonder, watching the assorted colored lights blinking off and on, spending hours on line after I have just carefully selected individual gifts, to fit my many friends and families personalities.  But too many people have become self-absorbed and only buy gifts in the hopes of getting something bigger and better from someone else, instead of giving from the heart without any expectations. Since I arrived in North Carolina I have been separated from my friends and family member on the holidays.

I have met people since I arrived here 4 year ago, but none as friendly toward me as I am to them.  I love buying gift for people and take pride in what I select for each one, these gifts are moderately priced but I guess I just have a knack for shopping and selecting gifts, (my gifts are filled with love).   For the last past 4 Christmas Holidays, I have received bath and gel sets, don’t get me wrong I am grateful, but I just want to add that I have a storage closet under the stairs, and I can  actually go Christmas shopping under the stairs, if you know what I mean.  This year I am baking oatmeal cookies and putting them decorative jars and attaching a Christmas card saying I love you Merry Christmas.  I expect nor want anything in return, but to enjoy a pleasant dinner with my husband and then two of us will exchange our personal gifts.

Tragically there have been allot of catastrophes in the world and many will not be have a Merry Christmas, this is the season for giving, please find it in your heart to help out some of the less fortunate this year.  I am sure you can just imagine the faces of the less fortunate when they receive something totally unexpected.  When you bless someone else it will come back to you ten-fold.  So go ahead and stuff that turkey, drink that eggnog, and sing joy to the world.  But remember the reason for the season so stir in a little kindness then wrap it up with L.O.V.E., this Christmas.

Seasons Greeting! Just remember there are only 72 day left before Christmas.

Nicely written, and a good sentiment. Let’s keep focused on the important stuff this season.

I love christmas, but these are sensitive times, sharing always shows you care no matter what it is I am sure it will be appreciated.

    I really enjoyed that!

And we have to remember that love is an action word. It’s not so much what you say to a person but how you treat them that shows how much you love them. And love stands regardless of tax brackets. So let’s stop the nonsense of trying to outdo the next person when it comes to our giving, but rather give gifts that show our loved ones that we know them well enough to pick out gifts that have a personal touch.

Well put, keep doing good! Sorry I didn’t catch you other work, but I have been swamped studying for my SAT.

I completely agree with you. We do have to remember that Christmas is more than just exchanging gifts.

“the reason for the season” – a little bit of your poetry coming out!
    Well argued, lovely images.

Excellent article. Love means reaching out to the people who are less easy to love too!

Curious how my daughter and I decided on using “tis the reason for the season” on her shop window with an original painting of the Christ child in the manger, by our artist friend-we also join in on the painting. We wanted to remind people that Christmas is not just about gift giving! I plan on making a lot of homemade things and we also told the children they need to realize the true meaning of Christmas.
    Wonderful article, thank you!

So many people forget the true meaning of Christmas. It will be here before we know it.

I’ve put a complete stop to expensive gifts from this year on. The children will get a few gifts which have been made by myself and hopefully we will have a stress free holiday with plenty of family time. I’m hoping it will make the children appreciate what they do have a little more :)

very nice and meaningful article. I think gift giving and receiving is over rated.

While I like this piece overall, I have one piece of “constructive criticism”: By titling it ‘Xmas’, you have left out in the article THE most important thing: Christ.
