Tandy was a big muscle buffalo, and spoiled. He had won blue ribbons at the state fair seven years in a row. This year was no different.
Roger loved his Buffalo. When he was ten years old, his father gave him a runt buffalo. He cared for it, and bottol fed it. He groomed his pet buffalo and as it grew it followed him around like a dog. He named the buffalo, trouble. he had decided to name him that after he broke in his mom’s garden. His mom made him promise to lock him up. Trouble escape a few times. Always getting into something he shouldn’t. Like the time he broke into the feed shed. Roger and Trouble both were in trouble then. His father said, if he couldn’t control Trouble , he would be sold. Roger spent time with trouble . He trained him and things started going smoother. He beg his dad to let him enter the buffalo in the state fair. Trouble won seven years straight. He was grooming Trouble for the fair. Two more days Trouble. When they arrived at the fair, they put Trouble in his assigned stall. Roger took some time to check the other animals out. He saw Doug and his friend with the steer they entered. He saw Gilbert and Alan. They were always showing off and they seem to always be getting in trouble with the law for petty stuff. They saw Roger and they made fun of him. They called him buffalo boy and made fun of Trouble. Roger was getting mad and so he thought he should just keep on walking. He thought how good it would feel to punch them boys all across Texas. He shook that thought off and found the funnel cake stand. He loved the funnel cakes here. After he finished the cake he heard screaming and people running. He headed back to the animal barn. Trouble was loose and causing problems. He grabbed Trouble and led him back to his stall. The lock had been broken and was laying on the ground. The men were upset and yelling that someone could of been hurt. Roger said someone broke the lock and let Trouble out. Gilbert and Alan were standing next to the door laughing. Don’t worry, i wont leave the stall area until we leave. Roger told his father who he thought let Trouble out. Rogers dad didn’t care for those two boys either. We’ll keep an eye out. He slept next to the stall at night. Those boys wont get to you again. He petted the buffalo and scratched behind Troubles ears. His father took watched while Roger grabbed a bite to eat and to clean up. The judges would be looking at all the animals at two pm. Not too much longer Trouble. Beth showed up and came by to look at Trouble. Roger had liked her for a couple of years now. He got all tongue tied when she was near. Beth liked him too. The fall dance was a week away and she was hoping Roger would get the nerve to ask her. But she knew he would probably shy away and kick himself because he chicken out asking her. So she decided to save a lot of time and ask him to the dance. Roger blushed as she approached. IT was easier than she thought. Roger said he would love to be her date. She said her goodbyes and headed for the cake judging. She had entered her Lemon cake this year. Roger walked to the door and looked around. No Gilbert or Alan. Maybe they decided to leave. Wishful thinking tho. As the judges entered the room, crowds followed them. We took out our Animals and paraded them around the arena. Gilbert and Alan threw fireworks near Trouble. The steer took off running and another buffalo took off. Trouble broke loose and headed for the door. Everyone was trying to get out of the way. One by one they were rounded up. Trouble kept going tho. Crows outside were yelling and jumping aside. Roger did the only thing he could think of. He jumped on the back of Trouble. A man yelled out”you cant ride Buffalo’s boy. Roger did it at the ranch from time to time. Trouble calmed down and Roger rode the buffalo back to the arena. People cheered. None had ever seen someone ride a buffalo. Gilbert and Alan were arrested and led away by the police. Roger climbed down and the people clapped. The grand prize goes to Trouble. Photos were taken and they even asked Roger to get back on Trouble for more photos. Its time to head back home Roger. His father looked tired and he also felt like he could sleep a week. On the way home his father told Roger how proud he was. He was glad no one was hurt. They talked all the way home and decided to let Trouble loose with the others. Maybe we’ll have more Troubles this spring. They both laughed. Good night son, goodnight dad……!
