A real story that inspires us not to be greedy.

Once upon a time, in Terengganu, Malaysia, there was a young fisherman. He is called Ali. He came from a poor family. Therefore, he used to dream to live in a large and superb bungalow.

One day, he went to sea as usual. While he was catching fish in the sea, he accidentally discovered a gold chain. This chain was extremely long; he accumulated all his efforts to pull this chain up. However, the chain seemed to have no endless length. He was unable to pull this chain up, no matter how much efforts he devoted and how strong he was. Ali’s eyes grew bigger and bigger while he looked at this chain swaying onto the sea surface.

Ali’s mind was completely trapped by this gold chain. At this moment, he thought: “If I can pull even a small portion of this gold chain. I will be rich. I can build my desired bungalow and thereafter I will live happily and comfortably. If I pull second portion of this gold chain, I can buy a Mercedes Benz and go everywhere I like. People will regard me as a VIP person, how nice! If I pull up some more portions of this chain, I can have my own farmland. I will not have to go to sea anymore but just feeding my chickens, ducks, goats, cows and buffaloes. When my chickens lay eggs, I can sell them in the market to gain my income. Ah…if I pull some more portions of the chain up, I can have money to bring home a beautiful wife. By then, she can take care of my meals, bed, drinks and does house chores for me. She may also massage for me whenever I feel tired or when my body aches.”

Thinking…thinking…thinking of this, Ali was immersed in happy dreams. He forgot that he was in the middle of the sea. Suddenly, his wooden boat started to sink. He then realized that the gold chain was pile up in his boat. He felt very regret but it was too late. He blamed himself for his greediness. Finally, he did not fulfill his dream. Poor guy! He was drowned in the sea and nobody came to rescue his body.

This story inspired us that greedy person will not be pay off. So, let us be moderate in whatever we do and do not behave greedily like Ali as you gain nothing at the last!
