Use your imagination to picture two of your girlfriends talking. No–they might not talk about you and the guy you’re currently dating. But more than likely they will be. And, more than likely the conversation will go something like this:

“Who was she with?” Lynn asked.

“Him, of course,” answered Dorothy.  “And yes, he was serious eye candy.  He just kinda stood there, all fortified in his aftershave lotion, looking like somebody made him!”

“So, he was really cute, huh?” asked the eager-for-any-gossip-at-all Lynn.

“Well, he was certainly nice looking, if you like that type,” said Dorothy, in her best disinterested voice.

“What type?” asked Lynn.

With a curl of her upper lip, Dorothy explained, “You know, the I-got-it-and-if-you-want-it-you gotta-earn-it type.”

“Oh, you mean he was stuck on himself,” summarized the quick-witted Lynn.

“You better believe it!  And she hung on him like somebody was gonna try and take him, girl!  I just laughed at ‘em.”

“But, did you speak to her?” continued Lynn, because certainly there had to be more details to this story.

“Well, I started to go over there.  But I was having too much fun myself and then when I did think about ‘em, they had left.”

“Oh.”

“But girl, he wasn’t that much.  I expected more after all that bragging she did.  I thought I was going to see Halle’ Berry’s man Gabe or something.”

That made Lynn laugh.

“Yeah girl, and she was introducing him as ‘my fiancé, he’s an attorney.”

“Oh, no, she didn’t,” howled Lynn.  That was too funny.

“Yes she did, and Doreen asked her if he had a name since we  had already heard what he did for a living.”

Laughter.

“So, he really is an attorney?” asked Lynn.

“Yeah.”

“Well, did you see if he really drove a Mercedes?”

“Well, yes.  I just happened to be standing in the lobby when they drove up.  He let her out at the door and then went to park the car.  I nearly died.  Barry, has never done that for me.  Girl, it wastes gas and time.”

“Yeah, that’s what Frank says.”

“And then she was carrying on about going to some Mexican place after the banquet.”

“Did she invite you and Barry?”

“Of course, she did.  But we told her we were going home.  Honey, that place cost a lot of money for food that taste just like Taco Bell.  And, besides, Barry would be spending money I could put in my pocket.”

Laughter.

“Well, what did she have on?

…your friends are always interested in the details of your life; and especially interested in those matters that affect your happiness and success.  Should you hear their conversation placed a somewhat negative twist on the details of your life, realize that you are obviously on a path that most of your on-lookers would like to be on.  Do not consider yourself as having been gossiped about.  Realize that it is difficult to watch our girlfriends use the same techniques and approaches to dating that we use, and to arrive at a more successful conclusion.
