On a Friday evening 4 friends were having a sleepover, they were watching TV; listening to music; goofing around; and talking about boys. Sarah was telling Ellie about her male problems with someone, while Lilly and Michelle were making fun of Matthew, the boy that Ellie liked. Sarah heard what they were talking about and joined in and then she remembered what she heard.

“Hey, El did you know that Matthew has a kid?”
“What?!”
“Yeah, I know eh?”

After that they all stopped talking about him. They watched Degrassi and That 70’s Show until they fell asleep.

On Saturday they woke up around noon. Ellie wanted to go to the mall, mainly to see Matthew, but also because it was sort of like a tradition – to go to the mall on the weekend with Lilly. The other girls were okay with going, they weren’t going to behave though… dragging Ellie into the store, yelling and hiding. Oddly enough though, Matthew wasn’t working. It was raining outside and there were a lot of shoppers. This older lady was supervising while carts were being brought in and she had a clipboard. Ellie decided to talk to her, maybe find out why Matthew wasn’t there.

“Excuse me, but is Matthew Thomas working today?”
“You just missed him; he was working earlier today”
“Oh.”
“You’ll get about 3 dates with him, then he’ll forget… watching his kid takes up a lot of time.”
“He never told me he had a kid… well, my friend told me yesterday…and we’re just friends.”
“If you’re Ellie then you are more than friends.”
Ellie stood there raising her eyebrow, confused.
“What do you mean?”
“Well, all the boys here have a thing for redheads. He talks about her a lot.”

The lady had to go, all the carts were in. Ellie’s friends heard the conversation after they started talking about Matthew’s kid. They left the store, and hung around the mall for a while. Lilly asked if they wanted to go to Matthew’s street, Ellie didn’t really want to… but they went anyway. This time there weren’t any lights on, so they figured no one was home and left.

When Ellie got home she went online, no one was on, so she went and watched a movie with Michelle then went to bed. The next day around 3 in the afternoon Matthew was on. After thinking about it, she figured if he had a kid it was cause he was sexually active. But that got her thinking…when would he be having sex, his last girlfriend was an online one and he always seems to be home or working. Since it seemed he had a kid, Ellie wasn’t going to ask about that. Instead she decided to ask him something else.

“Hey.”
“Sup?”
“Nothing really, can I ask you something?”
“?”
“When’s the last time you had sex? XD”
“Um, last night.”
“Oh…” She typed disappointed.
“it didn’t mean anything.”
“Wow. *rolls eyes*” Ellie was thinking he wasn’t helping himself.
“…I can’t get close to the people I like, that’s why I have long distance relationships – I would have sex with you but….”
“But?”
“That would mean getting close to you.”
