It is a simply no.

We cannot allow outside influences power over our direction and goals.

What we have to do is action, to make our dream come true. Every action we take must have an impact or risk, we have to do is as small as possible to minimize the risks that might arise. The trick is to do careful planning and preparing an alternative to support the original purpose, it does not mean making a new goal.
