Ghazal is an important genre of Urdu literature which was evolved in succession of the qasida’s part first called as “Tashbeeb”.Ghazal is very unique in its format and subject. Subtlety and innovative imagination is its basic feature. Ghazal did not allow any change in its structure so it survived and surpassed all genres of urdu poetry. Ghalib called it a narrow passage of expression(tangnae ghazal) but expanded its scope of subjects. Iqbal also enhanced the power of expression and subjects through the support of Persian language. He brought it out of the pure romantic pedigree of subjects. So both the poets introduced various subjects of philosophy and tasawwuf without effecting its main component of “taghazzul”.Both legends used the Persian tradition already existed which had been evolved through centuries by mystic poets.
Here I give a translated version of a Persian Ghazal of Allama Iqbal.
