Continue ReadingWith silent movements, a great, dark shape sails the clear blue waters of the tropical areas it has come to inhabit frequently. Upon closer inspection the emblem on the flag becomes clear – a starkly white skull and crossbones symbol flies in the wind. The benefit of seeing the Jolly Roger was that it let on that the ship itself was most definitely a pirate’s ship. Smart ships with an experienced and wise crew always ran from a confrontation with pirate ships. Pirating became so widespread that at one point the English and French governments offered rewards to sailors who could capture pirates alive. After a trial, these pirates would oftentimes be hanged.
