Continue ReadingMy Aunt was recently describing to me the reaction several of her Ugandan friends had when they were able to attend a UN meeting regarding women’s issues. They had returned stunned saying, "Does the west really think all we care about is that we can be free to marry other women if we discover ourselves to be lesbian? Do they not know that we are still publicly shamed when we leave an abuse spouse. That our little girls are constantly subjected to the possibility of physical and sexual abuse. Do they care that our daughters are being sold into prostitution?"
So this is my ode to how the western world seems determine to fight battles, but rarely chooses a worthy opponent.

Continue ReadingThis poem is derived from a personal encounter and interraction with previously abducted child soldiers in the war ravaged Areas of Nothern Uganda where over two million children were abducted by the self-stlyed rebel commanders of the Lord’s Resistance Army and conscripted to become child soldiers.Athough the boys also suffered,the girls suffered the most as many of them were turned into commander’s wives at tender ages.
