A family friend lost her baby girl a month before she was due. I wrote this poem for the funeral pamphlet. I was told by the friend how this poem was exactly what she was thinking and feeling. All I could say is I wrote it from what I think I would think or feel if I were in her shoes. I tried to write it from a mother’s point of view. I know that it helped her, but the truth is it was helping me too.

This poem is written less than a month after my daughter’s sudden death.

There was anger and so much loss and I could not cry for thirty years. Then I wrote this poem. I am crying now as I post it. It is so intimate to me.
