The folk lore is that if ground hog doesn’t see his shadow and run back in his hole to hid that spring is just around the corner. Maybe so but I live way up north in North Country and I know, shadow or no shadow spring is still a long way off and there is a lot of wintry ice and snow and blow left to be had no matter what ground hog says. A life lesson told from a pioneer and an encounter with a legendary creature that changes his perspectives forever after.

During a recent (in fact on-going) project it came to me that some of my childhood experience had prepared me for sheer, dogged persistence.

Life is what we’ve made it.

Over the internet are many sites telling of the story of Stull Kansas or one of the Seven Gates to Hell. This is the true story. Legend or not.

An old folktale about an otherworldly beast from the rainforests of Malaysia/Indonesia. A story that was told to me by a family member during one evening after a family dinner. The story told takes place during WWII because of the relevance of the Japanese invasion.
